2. week

So what happened last week? Hm… Margot, Jessi and I were still alone in the house what wasn’t that bad :P We ate ice cream every day and stuff like this :D Working goes really good even the days when there is not much to do. We do a lot of art works here and probably I’ll be an art champ when I’m back home :D At this moment we have two guys who are schizophrenic, one girl who cuts herself and has psychosis, one who has dementia, one who is a bit disabled and the other ones I don’t really know. The one schizophrenic guy has a friend with who he fights a lot and so we have to get him back quite often. The other schizophrenic guy hears voices all the time and they tell them what he has to do. At these times he is really somewhere else and so he has to take some rest. Last week he also ran away from his home because of the voices and he was gone for two days!!!
This Saturday I’ve been free and so we went to the undersea walk in Grand Bay. It was really cool and so funny. With these big bubbles on your head and walking in slow motion… As you can see on the pictures we got some bread to feed the fish and there were quite lot… We laughed the whole time because we looked so funny but we couldn’t hear each other. After that we walked through Grand Bay, which is a really touristic place. You have a lot of hotels and shops there and everything is clean ;)
In the afternoon we took the bus to Trou Biche to go to Zuhayr’s (our manager from Aiesec Mauritius) birthday party. He rented a pool house near the beach. We had a lot of fun but in the end the whole house was wet and Jessi fall of the stairs and now her right leg is blue… The next day someone realized that his wallet is missing and later another guy found it, thrown away on the balcony, but empty… So there was someone who stole the money and threw the wallet away… That’s really mean and there was around 80 € inside….
The rest of the day we spent on the beach without the sun L There were clouds only but still it was hot and the water was warm J At home we got a ne house mate, Maria from Germany, with who I share my room now. It’s a bit difficult with her because she’s complaining about everything. That it’s so dirty here, that it’s smells so bad, that there are so many mosquitoes, ants, cockroaches, lizards, that she can’t eat anything here because it looks so bad, and stuff like this…. I really hope that it’ll change the next days!!!!
So yeah, that was my second week ;)

My first week

My first week got better every day. In the organization everybody tries to speak English with me, even the patients J I also get more involved in the team and the things they are doing. On Wednesday we had a kind of briefing and now I know what’s wrong with the patients and how their situation can be improved. On Tuesday Margot arrived from Delft and on Thursday Jessica arrived from Germany. They are really cool and we have a lot of fun together J even when we do the shopping or cleaning the house :D
Thursday it was Margot’s birthday and we had a little party here with cake and drinks. My work sucked on Saturday. This day children came from the SOS village and they were only talking creoles. So I couldn’t communicate with them because they can’t speak or understand English. Furthermore, it was just a way to entertain them. So it’s nothing where I can learn or profit from. Moreover it has been a different team and they couldn’t really speak English as well. That’s why I ask my ‘boss’ Géraldine If it’s ok that I work from Monday till Friday.
On Saturday evening we had a cultural diner at our place. Jessica and I made real German potato salad yummi. Margot made Dutch pancakes. Zuhayr bought some Mauritian food and the Indians cook really good Indian food. Everything was sooooo tasty J And we have still some food left! Later on we went to an ‘Aiesec-After-Conference-Pool-Party’ in a hotel which really sucked. But nevertheless, we met an Indian Bollywood film producer and regisseur and party of his crew. And the best thing was that they invited us (Margot, Jessica and me) to do scuba diving (you sit like on a motorbike, which can go under water, 3m, and you drive on your own and see all the underwater world) Actually it’s really expensive but we’ll get it for free J Later we went to another club which was really good. But when we wanted to left some guys were missing and so we had to call, and call again and wait for like an hour before we could go home…
Today we went with the Indians to Casela, this is a park were you can watch animals, and most of all birds. This was really cool. They had monkey, zebras, really old and big turtles, … there and we were able to touch them! Moreover you can go there for a safari and walk with lions. That’s on the top of our weekend plannings ;)

First pictures :)

Three days of working are lying behind me. And guess what I didn’t do much… Just handicraft work, Tai Chi and working with clay… The people I’m working with start to speak more and also more English with me J Juhu!!! I also get the place to know and it’s easier for me to help. Finally I found a suitable Internet possibility. I heard from the Indians that it’s possible to buy an Internet stick. It really costs me a lot but it’s better like this. And now you can see how Mauritius is :P  So guys here you are, the first pictures of Mauritius ;) At least this are only six pictures because it takes hours to upload them with this stick. Maybe it’s faster when I use the Internet of the organisation…

First 2 days

Hey,

yesterday I finally arrived on Mauritus. 11 hours on a plane can be very long!! But everything went fine and Pravin and his sister picked me up at the airport.. The house where I'm living is bigger than the one in India and we have at least more furniture in it :D But we don't have internet :( That is why I'm in an internet cafe right now...At this moment I'm living with a Dutch guy and in the flat above us there are 4 Indians. Next week another Dutch girl is coming and two German ones..
Today I had an introduction day at my organisation. Everybody seems to be nice and it is a lovely place. My work is in some ways similar to my work in India last year, except that I work with adults most of the time. On monday I"ll start. My working hours will be from 9.30-17.00 and that is even on saturdays :( So I have only one day a week where I can go to the beach or travel around the island...
Tonight I'll meet other Aiesecers and we will go out somewhere around here :)

The next time I'll put the first pictures on this blog. But first of all I have to buy a USB stick... I forgot mine in Germany....
